The Organic Seed Finder is designed to help seed customers locate seed vendors that may offer the type and variety of organic seed they need. The customer determines the seed type and may narrow their search by selecting the characteristics provided for each crop. Characteristics may include maturity, color, end use, disease resistance, or many others and they will vary depending upon the seed type.
Once the customer has selected the seed and its characteristics, they will select “Search”. The next screen will be a listing of all seed located on the Organic Seed Finder that meets their selected characteristics. If no listings appear or if the list is limited in size, the customer may modify the selected characteristics and conduct another search.
Each listing provides the name of the variety, the vendor, and a brief description they have provided about the listed variety. The date found on each listing is the last date that the selected listing was updated. This will allow the customer to get a sense of how current the listing might be. The Organic Seed Finder does not provide real-time inventories of seed availability. If a variety is out-of-stock, the vendor may keep the listing on Organic Seed Finder, then update the listing when more seed becomes available.
Each listing provides a link to the vendor. In some cases, the vendor link may go directly to a detailed description of the variety located on the vendor’s website. In other cases, the vendor may have chosen to direct the customer to the seed company’s on-line seed catalog.
For seed companies that do not provide a link to a website, the link will take the customer to a page listing contact information for seed vendors.
Once the search has been conducted, it is up to the customer to contact the seed vendors for further information or to complete the seed transaction.
The listing page shows the date and time the search was conducted and it may be printed.
If you are unable to find the seed type you want, please contact us by selecting the “Couldn’t find what you need?” link in the upper right-hand corner to send us a message. AOSCA will routinely share these comments with seed vendors as a way to help the organic seed industry grow to meets its customers’ needs.
